Stop Letting AI Write in Its Voice. Here Is How to Make It Write in Yours.

The problem with AI-generated content isn’t the quality of the writing. It’s that it sounds like everyone else’s AI-generated content. The same sentence structures. The same transitions. The same hollow enthusiasm.

The fix isn’t a better model. It’s a better voice system.

What a Voice System Is

A voice system is a structured set of rules, examples, and constraints that defines how you write. It’s not a style guide you read once and forget. It’s a living document that is embedded in your vector database and queried by every content agent before it generates a single word.

Building Your Voice System

Step 1: Capture Your Natural Voice

Go back through your best-performing content - the emails people replied to, the posts that got the most engagement, the messages that felt most like you. Pull out 10-15 examples.

Step 2: Identify the Patterns

Look for:

  • Sentence length (do you write short, punchy sentences or longer, more narrative ones?)
  • Vocabulary (what words do you use that others don’t? What words do you avoid?)
  • Structure (do you use headers? Lists? Long paragraphs?)
  • Tone (direct? Warm? Slightly irreverent? Formal?)
  • How you handle transitions between ideas

Step 3: Write the Rules

Turn those patterns into explicit rules. Not “write conversationally” (too vague). Instead: “Use short sentences of 10-15 words. Avoid passive voice. Start paragraphs with a direct statement, not a question. Never use the word ‘leverage’ as a verb.”

Step 4: Add Negative Examples

For every rule, add an example of what violates it. “This is off-brand: ‘Leveraging cutting-edge AI solutions to elevate your brand presence.’ This is on-brand: ‘AI that does the work. You keep the credit.’”

Step 5: Embed and Query

Store the voice system in your vector database. Every content agent queries it before generating. The output gets checked against it after generating.

The result is content that sounds like you, not like everyone else’s AI.
